Chongqing's GDP reached RMB 1.35 trillion in the first half of 2022, ranking fourth in China, with a year-to-year growth rate of 4%, according to recently released statistics. As the city continues to level up, its global visibility is growing rapidly. The Liberation Monument, the oldest core commercial landmark in Chongqing, is home to a bustling shopping district, the central business district and scenic spots. 而作为解放碑的另一面——十八梯，则承载着这座城市千年留存最深的记忆。南起厚慈街，北至较场口的十八梯，是连接重庆上半城和下半城的一条老街道，其“七街六巷”涵盖了百商云集的繁华鼎盛、军事中心的肃穆庄严、嘈杂而温暖的市井烟火，记录着重庆城的本土史、移民史、开埠史、抗战史及城市发展史，承载着老重庆的生活点滴，也正在成为重庆城市新的文化名片。
Unlike the Liberation Monument, 18 Steps is the other side of the coin that stores the city’s deepest memories. Extending from Houci Street in the south, to Jiaochangkou in the north, 18 Steps is a heritage site that connects the upper and low-lying areas of Chongqing. With its crisscross of traditional streets and alleys, the area was once a flourishing business hub and a military center with a warm, buzzing cultural life. The streets have seen local history unfold, from immigration and Chongqing’s opening up as a trading port, to the war against the Japanese invaders and urban development. It now offers the world a unique experience of old and new Chongqing.
